Charlotte, North Carolina, may not sound like America’s top destination for a solo adventure, but according to Airbnb's list of the top cities for individual travelers, it is. And if you’re looking for a more exotic solo getaway, the list has spots from around the world.
The site compiled the top destinations that saw the largest growth in single-person bookings in 2016, ranging from a 103% increase to a whopping 170% surge.
Charlotte was the only U.S. locale to top the list, good news for NASCAR fans and barbecue aficionados. If you’re more the margarita and beach type, Cancún also made the cut, along with two other spots in Mexico.
You could also ditch the continent altogether — hot spots abound in Germany, South Africa, Brazil, New Zealand and South Korea. Here are the most popular destinations for solo travelers, along with photos to fuel your wanderlust.
